FIX Protocol Developer
Hello,
I'm Marcus - CTO here at Prime Liquidity Solutions.
We're a leading liquidity provider specializing in institutional-grade trading infrastructure for brokers and proprietary trading firms. Our platform processes billions in trading volume daily across global financial markets.
Founded in 2019, we've rapidly established ourselves as a trusted liquidity provider serving over 150 institutional clients across major financial hubs including London, New York, Singapore, Dubai, and Hong Kong. Our advanced infrastructure handles multi-billion-dollar daily volumes with microsecond-level execution speeds.
We're at an exciting inflection point - our client base continues to expand, market demands are evolving rapidly, and we're scaling our technology team to meet the growing complexity of global financial markets. This presents incredible opportunities for talented engineers who want to shape the future of trading technology.
We're looking for a FIX Protocol Developer.
We need a skilled FIX Protocol Developer to join our core technology team in London. You'll be responsible for developing, maintaining, and optimizing FIX protocol implementations that power our institutional trading infrastructure. This role reports directly to our CTO and offers the opportunity to work with cutting-edge financial technology at massive scale.
If this sounds like the kind of role that excites you, read on - but before we dive into the details, here are a few things about Prime Liquidity that'll either make you say "absolutely", or help you realize this isn't the right fit:
- This position is based in our London office, but we offer flexible hybrid working arrangements. You'll need to be available during London market hours (8:00 AM - 6:00 PM GMT) as you'll be working directly with our trading infrastructure that operates during active market sessions.
- We operate in the fast-paced world of financial markets where milliseconds matter. This role is critical to our trading infrastructure's reliability and performance. You'll be well compensated with competitive salary, performance bonuses, and equity participation, but we expect excellence and dedication - this isn't the role for you if you're looking for a laid-back environment.
- We serve diverse clients ranging from forex brokers to proprietary trading firms across multiple asset classes and geographic regions. You'll work with various FIX protocol versions, market data feeds, and execution management systems. The complexity is significant, but so is the learning opportunity and impact on global financial markets.
- We're a privately-held, profitable company with strong financial backing from industry veterans. Our lean but highly skilled team means you'll have significant autonomy and direct impact on our technology stack. We're strategic about technology investments and expect team members to take ownership beyond their core responsibilities.
- Our headquarters are in Saint Lucia with major offices in London, New York, Singapore, Dubai, Hong Kong, and Tokyo. We operate as a global financial technology company with teams working across multiple time zones to provide 24/7 market coverage.
What you'll be doing
You'll be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining FIX protocol implementations that enable seamless communication between our liquidity platform and client trading systems across multiple asset classes.
To do this, you'll own the complete FIX connectivity lifecycle - from analyzing client requirements and protocol specifications to implementing robust, low-latency message handling systems. You'll work closely with our trading infrastructure team, risk management specialists, and client support engineers to ensure reliable and efficient trade execution.
You'll have significant autonomy in how you approach technical challenges and architect solutions. We're looking for someone who can quickly understand complex financial protocols, adapt to various client implementations, and maintain high-performance systems under market stress conditions. Your expertise will directly impact our ability to serve institutional clients effectively.
Here are some examples of what you'll be working on day-to-day:
- Developing and maintaining FIX protocol engines for multiple versions (4.2, 4.4, 5.0) to support diverse client requirements and trading workflows across different asset classes.
- Implementing low-latency message processing systems with microsecond-level performance optimization, including custom serialization and memory management techniques.
- Building robust error handling and recovery mechanisms for network failures, protocol violations, and market disruptions to ensure continuous trading operations.
- Collaborating with client technical teams to customize FIX implementations, troubleshoot connectivity issues, and optimize message routing for their specific trading patterns.
- Working on our trading ecosystem - integrating with market data providers, execution venues, and risk management systems. You'll help expand our connectivity to new liquidity sources and improve our execution algorithms.
What you'll need to do well in this role
Our ideal candidate will have:
- 3+ years' work experience in a product lead / product management role at a growth stage SaaS business, ideally in the B2B space.
- Much better than average written and verbal communication skills.
- Exceptional listening skills and the ability to assess information quickly.
- Strong technical acumen, plus solid data and analytical skills. We want someone who has a real instinct and can think strategically, but who can validate / back up their strategy with data.
- Strong user experience and design sensibilities. We care a lot about design, and we'll need you to do so as well.
- The ability to tell compelling stories that offer valuable perspectives / the ability to evangelise our product both internally and externally.
- The ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders of all roles and levels within the business - you'll need to ensure engineering, sales, marketing and customer success are all working in alignment, and build authority and mutual respect with individuals within all of these teams to deliver in the role.
- The ability to learn fast and get up to speed with our systems and processes quickly, as well as to help us define and implement new systems and processes as needed.
- A desire and ability to perform exceptionally well in an ambiguous and fast-paced start-up environment.
Please note that the experience, skills and so on listed above are not explicit requirements. They're there to give you a feel for the type of person we're looking for - if you have some but not all of these, but don't be put off from applying - but be prepared to explain how your perspective / experience / skills / etc set you apart from our applicants when we speak.
We expect a lot from you, but in return you'll
- Be part of a business where Product is massively respected across the board - whilst we don't yet have a dedicated product team, we made considerable early investments in our brand, build out a design system to prepare us for product scale, have a robust customer success team that engages proactively with our customers to understand their product requirements and so on. We all understand the importance of getting this hire right.
- Make a meaningful, measurable contribution to the business and define both the direction of the product itself, as well as the design, structure and execution of our entire product organisation as we scale over the coming years.
- Get the support you need to do a great job (MacBook Pro, the software you need, personal development budget, regular 1:1s, etc).
- Work extremely closely with high-calibre, experienced and bloody lovely team members from our founders down to our newest team members.
- Visit our office in Jersey regularly (if you're working remote).
- Have unlimited holidays (minimum requirement of 21 days per year).
- Be able to work where and when you want (as long as you're getting the job done).
- Get top of the line healthcare for you and your family.
- Get a meaningful equity allocation.
- Grow your career, fast.
We understand that this will be one of many jobs you hold over the course of your career, and we work extremely hard to get to know you personally, to understand as much as possible about your longer-term plans / career trajectory, and to shape your experience here at Unify in support of that. If the time comes that you want to move onto a new role in the future, you'll have loads of experience and a compelling story of how you made a huge impact, in a high-growth business, in a competitive market.
